Hawaii House of Representatives (2002–2004)
In 2002, she ran to represent the 42nd House District of the Hawaii House of Representatives. Moreover, she won the four-candidate democratic and later on defeated Republican Alfonso Jimenez in the general election.
In 2002, when she was 21, she became the youngest legislator ever elected in Hawaii’s history and even the youngest woman ever elected to a U.S. state legislature.
Tulsi strongly supported legislation to promote clean energy. She further supported protecting air quality and bettering the water supply.
Honolulu City Council (2011-2012)
In 2009, after returning home from her second deployment to the Middle East, she ran for a seat on the Honolulu City Council and finished first with 33% of the vote in the primary.
Later on in the November runoff election, she defeated Sesnita Moepono. Moreover, she introduced measures to help food truck vendors by loosening parking restrictions.
She also introduced Bill 54, which helped city workers to confiscate personal belongings stored on public property with 24 hours’ notice to its owner.
United States House of Representatives (2013–present)
In May 2011, she announced her candidacy for the House seat and won by 62,882 votes. However, on 16 August, she resigned from the City Council to prevent the cost of holding a special election.
On 8 November 2016, she was reelected by defeating her Republican opponent, Angela Kaaihue. Moreover, she was overwhelmingly reelected in 2018. This time she defeated Republican opponent Brian Evans.
By this time, Tulsi became the first Samoan American member of the United States Congress and the first Hindu member of the United States Congress. In October 2019, she announced her retirement from Congress.

She announced on January 11, 2019 that she was running for President of the United States in 2020. In March 2020, Gabbard ended her campaign (after winning no contests and remaining in the single digits for polling) — while Bernie Sanders, whom she ostensibly supported in 2016, was still running his campaign — and endorsed Joe Biden (whom she would later compare to Adolf Hitler). Before then, she announced that she would not seek reelection to the House of Representatives.

In October 2022, she posted a video to Twitter announcing that she had officially left the Democratic Party, stating that the party was an «elitist cabal of warmongers» and registering as an Independent. Despite her status as an Independent, however, she then immediately went on to endorse several far-right Republican candidates in that year’s elections, including Don Bolduc,who supported having the CIA fight the Russians in Ukraine. But then it’s like she almost realized she could make more money grifting as a pathetic ‘pick me’ and all of her opinions changed overnight. Weird.
