Momoland brief overview
Momoland (모모랜) was created from one of Korea’s reality show “Finding Momoland” in the year 2016. Seven (7) out of 10 trainees were selected to complete the group. Their official debut was delayed because of some instances but this gave them more time to prepare for their debut, fan meetings, promotional events, and the likes.
In October 26, 2016, one month before their official debut, Momoland members were appointed ambassadors for the International Relief Development NGO Plan in Korea.
In November 9, 2016, their group’s debut showcase was held and the next day, November 10, they released their mini-album “Welcome to Momoland” with the title track “Jjan Koong Kwang”.
Few months after their debut, from 7 members, Momoland became a group of 9 girls. In March 13, 2017, Daisy, who was originally part of Finding Momoland (but was eliminated), together with Taeha, a former Produce 101 contestant, were announced as the newest members of the group.
The history of creation and composition
The history of the creation of the collective originates in 2016 in Seoul, South Korea. The group was formed thanks to Duble Kick Entertainment, which launched the Finding Momoland reality show on the MNET TV channel. As a result of the auditions, 7 people entered the future team. The leader became Hybin.
Initially, the debut was scheduled for the end of summer, but it had to be postponed to prepare participants to performances and meetings with fans. Even before the official appearance on the scene, girls were chosen as ambassadors of the International Organization for Assistance in the Development of Korea.

Tropes related to MOMOLAND:
- Aerith and Bob: There’s the Korean names you’d expect — Hyebin, Yeonwoo, Nayun, Ahin, Taeha — then very European sounding names like Daisy, Jane, and Nancy. The true oddball is JooE.
- Anti-Smother Love Talk: Yeonwoo gave one to an overly protective brother in one of the group’s variety show appearances (6:31 for the start of the segment, 29:01 for the quote).Your sense of duty to protect her shouldn’t become your right to control her.
- Boyish Short Hair: Averted with Hyebin. She did have boyishly short hair for a time, but she wasn’t designated as the tomboy because of it. Even with short hair, she has always dressed and acted very femininely, in contrast to some other short-haired idols such as f(x)’s Amber or TWICE’s Jeongyeon.
- But Not Too Foreign:
- Nancy (type 1) was born in Daegu to a Korean mother and an American father.
- Daisy (type 3) was born in Seoul but raised in Canada for 11 years.

List of Momoland’s Discography
After the setback of their debut date, Momoland finally greeted South Korea’s music industry by releasing their first mini-album, Welcome to Momoland, on November 10, 2016. The title track JJan! Koong! Kwang! established their image as a bubbly and lively girl group.
Momoland released their first digital single, Wonderful Love, in January, 2017, and promoted the EDM version in July as a nine-member group, since Daisy and Taeha joined in April. The group promoted the song briefly before releasing their second mini-album, Freeze!. Notably, the music video for Freeze! garnered attention due to the appearance of former Wanna One member Kim Jae-hwan.
Five months later, Momoland released their third mini-album, Great!, which includes BBoom BBoom as the title track. The song successfully entered the top 10 of various music charts in South Korea and became popular overseas as well as domestically. Even so, the song was accused of plagiarizing the Spanish song Mi Mi Mi, which later was denied by its composer Shinsadong Tiger. Unquestionably, BBoom BBoom has cemented Momoland’s status as a rookie group in South Korea’s music industry.
In June, 2018, Momoland made another comeback by releasing their fourth mini-album, Fun to the World. Its title track, BAAM, is considered to be similar to BBoom BBoom, although its music video displayed the members who wear the traditional hanbok with a colorful background setting.
Not only in South Korea, Momoland has also ventured to Japan. In February, 2018, the group released a compilation album of their Korean song, which sold over 3,500 copies. Way to go, Momoland!
